Join the 3+30+300 Cohort
for Data-Driven Urban Greening
The 3+30+300 Rule
The 3+30+300 Rule in urban forestry is a simple guideline to make cities healthier and greener: everyone should be able to see at least 3 trees from their home, every neighborhood should have at least 30% tree canopy cover, and everyone should live no more than 300 meters from a park or green space. This rule helps ensure people have daily access to the benefits of trees and nature, supporting well-being and environmental resilience. This approach is widely adopted in Europe and now offers a new perspective for North America.
The 3+30+300 Rule aims for:
- 3 significant trees visible from every home
- 30% tree canopy in every neighborhood
- 300 meters to the nearest public green space
